In Japan, 371 deaths due to corona virus have been recorded in 24 hours. This is the highest number of deaths in a day since the outbreak of the epidemic in early 2020. Health officials said that the previous highest death toll of 347 people from Covid-19 was recorded on 2 September during the seventh wave.
The new figure has brought the total death toll to 54,680 till Saturday morning. Among prefectures, Kanagawa reported the most deaths on Friday at 28, followed by Hokkaido at 25, Tokyo at 24 and Osaka at 19.
174,079 new corona cases were registered in Japan on Friday, which was almost 20,000 more than the same day last week. The total caseload is now 27,939,118. On Wednesday, 206,943 new cases were reported, marking the first time since August 25 that the single-day tally had crossed the 200,000-mark.
The government directed to make necessary arrangements in a panel meeting to discuss measures against the spread of both Covid-19 and influenza.
