Washington: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a three-day US visit. Today i.e. on Friday, he is going to meet US President Joe Biden. This will be the first face-to-face meeting between PM Modi and Biden. Before this, both have talked on the phone many times. In this meeting of PM Modi and the US President, many important issues including terrorism are expected to be discussed. Apart from this, the Prime Minister will also participate in in-person meetings of the Quad countries.
- Virtual meeting has happened thrice
Joe Biden will meet Prime Minister Modi for the first time after becoming the President. However, both have had virtual meetings at least thrice. Both leaders virtually participated in the Quad Summit in March, the Climate Change Summit in April and the G-7 Summit in June. In November 2020, when Biden was elected US President, there was a phone conversation between the two leaders.

Defense, mutual relations, visa issue of Indians and trade are likely to be discussed during the first meeting of PM Modi-Biden to be held at the White House. This is considered to be the most important meeting in terms of both diplomacy and defense. During this, the issue of Afghanistan can also be discussed along with terrorism. Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Singla had given information about this before the Prime Minister’s visit to America. In the meeting, India will also convey its concerns about Afghanistan to the Biden administration.

After meeting Biden, PM Modi will participate in the Quad Summit. In this summit, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, besides President Joe Biden will also be present. Foreign ministers and NSAs of the four countries will also be part of the meeting. In this meeting, the four leaders will discuss the outcome of the virtual summit held in March as well as a common strategy for the future of the Indo-Pacific region.

Earlier on March 12, there was a virtual meeting of Quad. The agenda decided in that meeting will be discussed in this meeting. Apart from this, the focus will be on increasing cooperation on issues like corona epidemic, climate change, technology, cyberspace and keeping the Indo-Pacific region free. The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue is a group of four countries. This includes America, Australia, India and Japan. The idea of quads was given by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2007. Initially, Australia remained out of the group due to pressure from China. Finally in November 2017, the quad group of all the four countries was formed. Its aim is to end the dominance of any country, especially China, on the sea lanes of the Indo-Pacific.
