THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A lower court in Kollam district on Monday convicted a man of killing his wife after she was stabbed to death with a cobra. Justice M. Manoj of the Additional Sessions Court of Kollam convicted Suraj of the crime, the sentence in this case will now be pronounced on Wednesday. The case is very surprising.

After convicting Sooraj, when the judge asked if he had anything to say, he said, ‘Nothing.’ The counsel for the prosecutor expressed hope that the court will treat it as a ‘rarest’ case and give maximum punishment to the guilty. Police chief Anil Kant said that the matter is very complicated and full credit should be given to the police investigation team, which investigated the crime using all scientific and cyber methods of investigation. This incident is of May 6, 2020. On 7 May, Uttara’s mother found her daughter’s body in her house, about 70 km from here. The victim’s mother said that Uttara and Suraj had gone to their room after having food. The late rising sun rose early on 7 May and went out. When Uttara did not wake up, her mother went to her room and found Uttara lying unconscious. When they returned home from the hospital after their daughter was declared brought dead, the snake was in the room and was killed by Uttara’s parents.

On 24 May, the police arrested Sooraj and his associate Suresh for hatching a conspiracy to kill Uttara. Suresh’s profession is snake catching. After starting the investigation, the police buried the body of the cobra in a pit and sent the body for forensic examination. The investigation also revealed that Suraj had made several attempts to use snakes to kill Uttara. Uttara’s parents said that earlier, Uttara was at her husband’s house in Adoor at the time of the first snake bite incident on March 2. After recovering from the snakebite, she went to her ancestral home in Aanchal.
