XBB.1.5 Variant: The year 2023 is starting with the concerns of Corona. There has been a huge jump again in the cases of corona in China. Here the BF.7 variant of Omicron has become the reason for the new wave. At the same time, XBB.1.5 has raised concerns in America. According to the data revealed by the US CDC on Friday, 40 percent of the cases in the US are due to the XBB.1.5 variant.
While many public health experts are expressing concern about the rising Covid cases in China, many experts are concerned about the doubling of the super variant, XBB.1.5.
- ‘Most dangerous variant’
‘The irony is that the most dangerous variant the world is facing right now is actually XBB,’ Dr Michael Osterholm, an infectious disease specialist at the University of Minnesota, told Reuters.
Recombinants of the BA.2 variant, XBB and XBB.1.5, accounted for 44.1 percent of total cases in the US for the week ending December 31. For the week ending December 24, XBB.1.5 was 21.7 percent of the total cases.
- More contagious than BQ and XBB
Virologist Eric Feigel believes that the XBB.1.5 strain has the potential to be the ‘next big thing’. The XBB.1.5 variant is being called the ‘Super Variant’. It is more contagious than BQ and XBB.
According to experts, XBB.1.5 spreads faster and its infectivity rate is 120 percent faster than the previous BQ.1 variant, according to data from previous variants.
