New Delhi: The Madras High Court on Wednesday questioned whether a police officer can kill someone at the behest of his superior. The court said that only God can save the police department. Justice P Velmurugan said that only God can save the police department on the presentation of the Criminal Revision Petition seeking the release of Villupuram’s suspended SP D Kannan from the sexual harassment case.

The judge also said during the hearing, “It is a matter of shame that women in the police department are not treated with the respect they deserve.” In fact, police officer Kannan is also accused of stopping the vehicle in which the lady superintendent of police was going to file a complaint against her senior on February 22 with the state police chief i.e. DGP.
During the hearing of the petition, Kannan’s counsel told the court that his client had followed the instructions of his seniors. Then he had said that disobeying the orders of senior officers is tantamount to disobedience.

Kannan has been named as the second accused in this case. The first accused is a suspended Special DGP, who has been accused of sexually assaulting a subordinate female IPS officer.
