Haibatullah Akhundzada was appointed Taliban chief in May 2016. The appointment was made after former leader Akhtar Mansoor was killed in a US drone attack. According to a video shared by the group at the time, Habatullah, one of Mansoor’s two chief deputy was promoted at a meeting in Pakistan. A report by news agency AFP described 50-year-old Haibatullah Akhundzada as a lawmaker rather than a soldier/combatant and credited with introducing extreme interpretations of Islam to the organisation. Akhundzada is one of seven Taliban leaders who are widely expected to either lead Afghanistan or be effective in running the country once the organization takes control of Afghanistan. There have also been reports in Delhi that members of terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish Mohammad have joined forces with the Taliban.
By the way, after the occupation of Afghanistan, the path of Taliban is not looking easy this time. Against this organization, people are coming on the streets with the flag of Afghanistan. People are uniting against this ‘terrorist organization’ amid the Taliban’s occupation of Afghanistan. Ahmed Masood, the son of Ahmed Shah Masood, who fought against the Taliban in the past, has now opened a front against ‘this organization’. Ahmed Masood has also sought help from the world in this war waged against the Taliban. Hamad Masood said, ‘Mujahideen fighters are ready to fight the Taliban once again. We have a large quantity of arms and ammunition.
