Whenever there is a cricket match between India and Pakistan, only the sentiments of the viewers are not on the boom. Along with the feelings of the cricket lovers of both the countries, the feelings of the players of both the teams are also on the rise.
The players do not want to show any leniency under the stress of not losing matches with each other. In such a situation, Tu-Tu, Main-Main have also been getting to see each other in the field. Take a look at five such cases-
- Clash between Amir Sohail and Venkatesh Prasad
This clash between Pakistan’s batsman Amir Sohail and Indian bowler Venkatesh Prasad took place during the 1996 World Cup. Batting first, India had scored 287 runs.
In response, Amir Sohail and Saeed Anwar added 84 runs for the first wicket.
Sohail was batting in fine form. When Sohail was playing on 51 runs, he hit a boundary off Venkatesh Prasad. When the ball had reached the boundary, Sohail showed the ball with the bat while batting towards Venkatesh Prasad.
Sohail was probably trying to give Prasad a message of his aggressive style of batting. But this hurt Venkatesh Prasad. However, Prasad took his revenge on the very next ball. Sohail tried to play his ball at mid-wicket and the ball diddge his off-stump.
After dismissing Sohail, Prasad showed him the way towards the pavilion. This tussle between the two players was discussed for years. Even after 25 years, people remember this encounter.
- When Gautam Gambhir clashed with Shahid Afridi and Kamran Akmal
Gautam Gambhir was known in Indian cricket as a player whose attitude was very aggressive. In such a situation, he had a confrontation with Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi in 2007 in Kanpur.
While running to take serious runs, Shahid collided with Afridi. Gambhir believed that Afridi was deliberately preventing him from completing the run. Afridi denied these allegations and after this the two cricketers got into a tussle. The umpire pacified both the players.
After this, during the Asia Cup played in Dambulla in 2010, Gambhir met Pakistan’s wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal. Kamran Akmal appealed for the delivery of Saeed Ajmal to Gautam Gambhir’s wicket, which was not accepted by umpire Billy Bowden.
After this there was a drinks break. In this drinks break, there was a dispute between Gambhir and Akmal. However, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was on the other end, did not allow the matter to proceed by intervening.
- Tu-Tu, Main-Main by Harbhajan Singh and Shoaib Akhtar
There was a clash between Harbhajan Singh and Shoaib Akhtar in the 2010 Asia Cup match played in Dambulla. India had to score 268 runs to win this match. Team India had a challenge of 36 runs in the last four overs.
Shoaib Akhtar came out to bowl in the 47th over. Harbhajan Singh hit a six off his second ball. After this six, both the players were seen shouting at each other.
After this Harbhajan Singh gave victory to the Indian team by hitting a six off Mohammad Amir’s ball.
After this six, Harbhajan Singh started celebrating the victory while looking at Shoaib Akhtar. Shoaib Akhtar then asked him to go to the dressing room. This debate can also be seen on YouTube.
- Â Did Sehwag say to Shoaib Akhtar- ‘Baap baap hota hai’
Virender Sehwag has been one of the most aggressive batsmen of the Indian cricket team. He told a story of his dispute with Shoaib Akhtar in a TV program.
According to this story, Shoaib Akhtar wanted to break the pair of Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar while bowling at 150 kmph.
According to Sehwag, he was playing on 200 and Shoaib Akhtar was throwing bouncers repeatedly asking him to play hook shots. Shoaib wanted to provoke Sehwag, in such a situation, Sehwag told him that ‘your father is batting on the other end, if you have courage, speak to him, he will kill and tell. Shoaib bowled a bouncer to Tendulkar in the next over and Tendulkar hit a six through pull shots. After Sachin’s six, I said to Shoaib, son is son and father is father.
What Sehwag said became quite viral on social media. But about a year and a half ago, Shoaib Akhtar has denied any such incident. Although he said, ‘Sehwag told a funny story, if Sehwag really did this to me, I would have killed him in the field.’
Maybe Shoaib Akhtar is telling the truth, because when Sehwag scored a triple century against Pakistan, Sachin Tendulkar had scored 194 runs but did not hit any six in this innings.
A few years later, when Sehwag scored 254 against Pakistan, Tendulkar got a chance to bat. In 2007, Sehwag again scored a double century against Pakistan, but then Shoaib was not in the Pakistan team.
- Javed Miandad jumps on Kiran More’s appeals
The Javed Miandad-Kiran More controversy is also counted among the most talked about controversies in Indo-Pakistani cricket.
In the 1992 World Cup, there was a match between the two teams in Sydney. Batting first, India scored 216 for seven in 49 overs. Sachin Tendulkar scored 54 not out for India, while Kapil Dev scored 35 runs in 26 balls.
In reply, Pakistan lost two wickets for 17 runs. After this Amir Sohail and Javed Miandad took over the team’s score. This incident happened when Pakistan’s score was 85 runs for two wickets.
When Miandad tried to play Sachin Tendulkar, wicketkeeper More appealed for a catch. When Miandad ran to complete a run in the same over, More appealed for a run-out by dropping the wicket. Miandad then came inside the crease. After this, seeing More’s constant appeals, he started jumping on the wicket to tease him.
- The Indian bowlers won this match by taking wickets at regular intervals, but the dispute between Miandad and More is more discussed than the victory of this match.
