Approval of Central Government on 9 names recommended by the Collegium of the Supreme Court
The nine names recommended by the Collegium as a Supreme Court judge have been approved by the Central Government. Now the names have been sent to the President for issuing an appointment warrant in which the names of two Justices from Gujarat were recommended.
New Delhi: The nine names recommended by the Collegium as a Supreme Court judge have been approved by the Center. Now the names have been sent to the President for issuing an appointment warrant in which the names of two Justices from Gujarat were recommended.
- 3 Recommendation of the name of the female judge
The recommendation made by the Supreme Court collegium includes three women judges. The list of women judges includes the name of Justice Bella Trivedi of the Gujarat High Court. Also on the list is Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Vikram Nath. The list of women judges includes BV Naharathna of the Karnataka High Court and Hima Kohli of Telangana. Justice BV Nagarath could become India’s first woman Chief Justice in 2027.

Among the nine names recommended by the collegium were Justice Bella Trivedi of the Gujarat High Court, Chief Justice Vikram Nath, Justice BV Nagaratna of the Karnataka High Court, Chief Justice Hima Kohli of the Telangana High Court, Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court Abhay Srinivasa Oka, Justice Siksim JC Ravikumar, and MM Sundaresh are involved.
There are currently 24 judges in the Supreme Court. Even after the appointment of nine judges, one post will remain vacant in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court collegium comprised of CJI NV Ramna, Justice Uday U Lalit, AM Khanwilkar, Dhananjay Y Chandrachud and L Nageshwar Rao. Since the retirement of Justice Ranjan Gogoi as CJI in November 2019, the Collegium has not sent a single recommendation to the Central Government for appointments in the Supreme Court. There were 9 vacancies after Justice Nariman was ousted on August 12.
