Lucknow: All private schools in Uttar Pradesh will now be under the purview of the Right to Information Act, 2005 and they will have to compulsorily provide the information sought under RTI. Private schools came under the purview of RTI Act
The State Information Commission (SIC) has given this order. State Information Commissioner Pramod Kumar Tiwari in his order has asked to appoint Public Information Officers in private schools. He has also said that unaided private schools should be under the purview of the RTI Act. This has been a matter of debate for quite some time.
Public Information Officer will be appointed in private schools
Following Sanjay Sharma’s petition in respect of two reputed private schools in Lucknow, the SIC asked the Chief Secretary to direct the private school administrators to facilitate providing information to the public under the RTI Act, 2005. appoint officers.
Till now private schools used to give this argument
Private schools did not provide information under RTI on the ground that they do not get any help from the state and hence they are outside the purview of the RTI Act.
However, the Supreme Court had ruled that if the development authority of a city gives land to a private school at subsidized rates, the school will be treated as a state-aided school.
The SIC also said that the District Education Officer is bound to provide all the information sought in the form to the petitioner.
