Amidst the boom of electric scooters around the world, some startup companies in Bengaluru have started a unique initiative to convert old scooters into electric scooters. The amount for this is also not looking much.

Bounce, a startup company providing ride sharing services in Bangalore, has started a similar scheme. The company converts any old internal combustion engine (petrol) scooter into an electric scooter by installing an electric motor and a battery (Retrofit Kit). For this the company charges only 20 thousand rupees.

Vivekananda Hallekare, co-founder of Bounce, said, “Till now we have converted more than 1000 old scooters into electric scooters. The company is also opening service centers for these scooter owners. With the battery kit that comes in this scooter, once the scooter is fully charged, the scooter can be run up to 65 km. This kit is certified by the Automotive Research Association of India.

However, after the bounce, many companies have now come up with such kits which include Etrio and Meladath autocomponents. According to the report, Meladath is preparing to launch an Ezee Hybrid kit in the market which can easily convert any old petrol scooter into an electric/hybrid scooter. If this happens, then the scooter can be driven in any mode, petrol or electric, according to the need.
