Afghanistan Cricket Board chief Hamid Shinwari has said that his team is once again preparing for a one-day series against Pakistan in Sri Lanka.
He said the Afghan national team was “excited” to resume practice in Kabul.
He told AFP news agency that the atmosphere in the camp was tense and the team would be sent to Sri Lanka as soon as airlines resume.
He said that he is in touch with the officials in this regard. Hamid Shinwari said that there is no threat to cricket from the Taliban.
He said, “Cricket was not a problem in the previous Taliban government and it will not happen again. I don’t remember that Taliban ever created any problem with cricket.”
Shinwari said that he cannot comment on women’s cricket at the moment but the situation will become clear in the next few weeks. The Afghanistan Cricket Board has also announced to start its T20 league in Kabul from 10 September.
“We are committed to revitalizing cricket in Afghanistan. We have strong ties with the Indian and Pakistani cricket boards and are part of the international cricket community,” he said.
