New Delhi: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is serving a sentence in Haryana’s Rohtak jail in connection with the rape of two sadhvi and murder of a journalist, has suffered a major setback. In the Ranjit Singh murder case, a special CBI court has convicted five accused including Ram Rahim. The court will sentence all the culprits on October 12.
- Ram Rahim appeared through video conferencing
Deramukhi Gurmeet Ram Rahim and Krishna Kumar, accused in the Ranjit Singh murder case, appeared in a special CBI court on Friday through video conferencing. At the same time, the accused Avtar, Jasvir and Sabdil appeared in the court directly.
- Ranjit Singh was murdered in 2002
Ranjit Singh of Kurukshetra, who was a member of the management committee of Dera Sacha Sauda, ​​was murdered on 10 July 2002. Dera management suspected that Ranjit Singh had written an anonymous letter of sexual abuse of Sadhvi from his sister. Ranjit Singh’s father was dissatisfied with the police investigation and filed a petition in the High Court in January 2003, seeking a CBI inquiry. After the order from the High Court, the CBI had registered a case against the accused while investigating the matter. In the year 2007, the court framed charges against the accused.
- Gurmeet Ram Rahim is lodged in Sunaria Jail
Gurmeet Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years in jail by a special CBI court in August 2017 for raping two women. At the same time, in January 2019, a court sentenced Ram Rahim and three others to life imprisonment for the murder of a journalist 16 years ago. Since then Gurmeet Ram Rahim is imprisoned in Sunaria Jail in Haryana.
