IPL Best Captain: Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag does not consider veteran Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who won Team India T20 and ODI World Cup under his captaincy, as the best captain of IPL. Sehwag has said that Dhoni is not the best-captain of IPL.
Sehwag on Best Captain of IPL: Mahendra Singh Dhoni is counted among the best captains in the world. Under his leadership, he gave India not one but many opportunities to celebrate. Team India won the T20 in 2007 and the ODI World Cup in 2011 under the captaincy of Dhoni. Meanwhile, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has given a statement about him. Sehwag has said that Dhoni is not the best-captain of IPL.
- Dhoni is not the best captain for Sehwag
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has preferred Rohit Sharma of Mumbai Indians over MS Dhoni of Chennai Super Kings as the best captain of IPL (Indian Premier League). Sehwag said that in the last 15 years, the Mumbai franchise has won the IPL trophy 5 times. The team of Chennai Super Kings has been able to win four IPL trophies so far. Mumbai is also the most successful team of the league. Sehwag spoke during an event organized to celebrate 15 years of IPL.
- ‘The numbers tell all’
Sehwag said during the program, ‘The numbers tell everything. See MS Dhoni had the experience of captaining the Indian team and then he became the captain of Chennai Super Kings. At the same time, Rohit Sharma’s first experience of captaincy was with Mumbai Indians and from there his journey of success started. So he (Rohit) deserves more credit. It is like Sourav Ganguly, he became the captain of the Indian team and tried new and different things. India became the number-1 ODI team under his captaincy. That’s why my choice is Rohit Sharma.
- Harbhajan had a different opinion
Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, however, termed Dhoni as the best captain of IPL. Harbhajan said, ‘I will give my vote to Dhoni because from the first year he played for the same franchise. He played a big role in making the franchise successful. The way he took up the responsibility of captaining the Indian team is amazing. Other captains have also done well and won tournaments but I think overall my vote will go to Dhoni. I have played for both the teams. My heart still beats for Mumbai Indians because I played for it for 10 years but I learned a lot from the two years I spent in Chennai Super Kings.
